Can your identity be stolen by credit card offers you recieve in the mail?

Question by Maddy: Can your identity be stolen by credit card offers you recieve in the mail?
My significant other always tells me to shred my credit card offers (advertisements) that I recieve in the mail, because he claims that people can steal my identity. Don’t people need your social in order to steal your identity which is not shown on these mail offers? I think people need more info than your name and address to steal your identity or open credit cards in your name. Am i wrong or right?

Secured Credit Card. Give Yourself Credit.

Article by James Aaron

What is a secured credit card? It is a charge card that has a security deposit associated with it. Another name for a secured credit card is prepaid card. With this type of charge card you have to deposit an amount as security equivalent to fifty to one hundred percent of your credit limit in a special account with the credit card issuer or bank. The credit card issuing company or bank will provide you with your new card which is used just like a regular credit cards. Why am I getting so many credit card offers when my credit rating would remind anyone of a cesspool?

Question by politicallyyours: Why am I getting so many credit card offers when my credit rating would remind anyone of a cesspool?
These banks are sick. Each month I must get about 5 to 10 offers to sign up for new credit card accounts, some of them pre-approved. My credit is certainly less than perfect.

Answer by jimobasa
The term “pre-approved” is meaningless. It is the bank’s way of encouraging more people to apply. If your credit is poor, then your application will be rejected once the bank has received it and examined your credit history
