Does opting out of prescreened credit card offers effect immediate store credit such as a Sears card?
Question by Elisabeth: Does opting out of prescreened credit card offers effect immediate store credit such as a Sears card?
I’m talking about the Sears credit card offers they make at the register. They denied me due to unfavorable credit history– which I don’t have, and recent credit applications– which I haven’t made. I checked my Equifax report and everything is normal– the only reason I can think of is the opt-out but I can’t confirm it.

What is the “Locator Identification” number on the back of the envelope for credit card offers?
Question by mama: What is the “Locator Identification” number on the back of the envelope for credit card offers?
There is a statement below it saying it’s a violation of federal law to steal or possess stolen mail, and to defraud by mail a financial institution. These started showing up a while back.
I shred all my credit card offers, including any inserts that have the offer number on it. I’m pretty sure the Locator Identification number it’s not an offer number, so I shouldn’t have to shred it. I just wanted to see if someone knew for sure what it is. What exactly are they tracking? Is this to combat the people that remove their name from the offers and mail the junk back to them, costing them postage?

Go to the website below and opt-out of the offers.
It’s not 100% though. I opted out a couple years ago and still get a few offers now and then. Just make sure you shred those offers though so no one else can apply using your name.

Can your identity be stolen by credit card offers you recieve in the mail?
Question by Maddy: Can your identity be stolen by credit card offers you recieve in the mail?
My significant other always tells me to shred my credit card offers (advertisements) that I recieve in the mail, because he claims that people can steal my identity. Don’t people need your social in order to steal your identity which is not shown on these mail offers? I think people need more info than your name and address to steal your identity or open credit cards in your name. Am i wrong or right?
